  • Salama Africa is a nonprofit refugee-led organization operating in Malawi’s Dzaleka Refugee Camp. Dzaleka is home to over 50,000 refugees from across Central and Eastern Africa. While there are over 25,000 school-aged children in Dzaleka, there are only 7,000 seats in the single formal public school. Salama Africa operates the camp’s largest youth center, providing access to education, creative arts, dance, and technical skills courses to out-of-school youth in the camp. Salama Africa recently launched a tablet-learning program in partnership with Imagine Worldwide to provide adaptive tablet-based learning to over 1,000 out-of-school children on a daily basis.

Internet access is an urgent and essential need for Dzaleka Refugee Camp. It would not only enhance the tablet-based learning program but also open up new opportunities for communication, information dissemination, and skill development for the camp's residents. Access to the internet would empower these refugees to access educational resources, connect with the global community, and improve their overall quality of life, offering a glimmer of hope and progress in the midst of adversity.
